IT’S HERE!!!

The 4th annual Nadoes 7’s Cricket has arrived and is about to take the cricketing world by storm on Sunday March 2 at Pinelands CC (Roffies hunting ground!) Once again, the day promises to be one filled with sixes, fours, bitches and more! Sponsors have been clambering to get an opportunity to get involved in a social event second only to the J&B Met.
Fighting talk has been dominating the conversations of our 8 esteemed captains and it promises to a hotly contested tournament as a result of one of the most competitive, controversial and exhaustive recruitment campaigns seen in years. Callan Wilko Williamson, Keric little dayne Allenbrook and Warren the cobra Butler bring sides into the tournament for the first time and could well produce some special talents. This is not forgetting former winners, in Jason meerkat Elley’s experience campaigners, The Great Dayne’s ringers and of course Nic Roffie Mac’s youth of yesteryear. Last but not least is the Godfather Jed himself who has put together a formidable outfit of experience cricketers to take on these budding youngsters and Gregg Joe Dirt Gray’s famed side which, whispers have been heard, includes a current venomous cobra.
This year’s event sees the addition of 1 player, one very exciting new rule, a live DJ, more beer than before, and Jed’s fourth farewell! All captains will be encouraged to submit some news on their team this week. You would be mad not to come down and watch and be able to say that you were at the 4th annual 7’s because they are bound to be scintillating.

Here For The Beer
Captained by Gregg Gray
Here for the Beer wins Nadoes 7’s 2008….. Stranger things have happened in the sporting world, Kenya beating West Indies (World Cup 1996), Fiji beating Wales (RWC 2007), Barnsley beating Liverpool (hahahahahaha, FA Cup 2008). These are all examples of underdogs going against the odds, playing with enjoyment, flair and passion and coming out with a result! For the 3rd year running we will enter the tournament as underdogs, but as in previous years we’ll play for fun, drink all day and embarrass the ‘competitive sides’ by making it into the semi, probably the final…. If that doesn’t go to plan, we’ll booze and be stoked with a great day out with mates!
After missing out on the final last year after an entense bowl-off we have strengthened our bowling attack with a new signing of Macca MacSymon, deadly depth bowling, good boozer and exceptional local knowledge of the weather in the pinelands area, also brings a new dimension of attacks into this team… destractions.. his cracking better half will be parading around in very little! AB The duck is in fine form and will be opening the batting with Kevin The Mole Merifield, both allrounders, AB will be donning the gloves while The Mole is a Batsman and Boozer! Harry’s House and Jimmy Richards are both finely tuned athlete’s, managed to get them out of the gym and onto the field, watch out taking a quick 2 to these 2, they’re quick! Their has bn a whisper of a bet between Harry’s House and Renzo over who’s gonna take the most wickets… any punters out their…. House is a safe bet! Bookies closed! I’ll be boozing, batting, bowling and trying to keep our venamous snake under control…..
Best of luck to all player’s.

Jimmy the Crickets
Captained by Jason Elley
1. Robert John Morris THE RUTH
2. Mark Batchelor JOEY MILLER
3. Stuart Edward Neeve ALAN LAMB
4. Gareth Wright CLIVE RICE
5. Andrew Puttick BOOM
6. Jason Elley JIMMY
7. Jon Meintjies CHEESE
DONKEY OUT DUE TO INJURY, he will be sorely missed.
Last years victorious side comes back to retain there title. They do however lose the likes of BIRCH who chose to run with the squirrels as they offered him more nuts!
This just adds to the excitement of the tournament as the same side returns with new signings of BOOM & CHEESE who offer batting, keeping and exceptionally quick bowling alternatives… Just ask Jamie Carol!
Ruth has come a long way since last year, and represents the WPCC 1st side now after flourishing with the WPCC/NADOES who have had an exceptional year. Joey Miller is looking to reproduce last year’s efforts that won him the player of the tournament. Neeve will be giving his usual solid performance and has consistently been scoring big runs in the WPCC 3A’s. Clive Wright the talent that he is, excels at whatever he does and will be sure to knock a few balls over the boundary come Sunday. He has been known to deliver a lethal short ball as well. Boom comes back to the arena after missing out last year and will need to retain some form in this sort of the game, but his class is sure to pull him through and his experience will add much benefit to this well rounded side. Jimmy is a special sort who brings numerous options to the game of cricket, his ability in the field is to be reckoned with the likes of Jonty and AB. Thankfully for the opposition he will be coming off his short run up but will still be throwing them down. Cheese brings a lot of mental strength to this side as he knows much about his old hunting ground here in pinelands and also knows plenty about the opposition.
Team Intensity
Captained by Warren Butler
There are many questions but so few answers about one of the new sides coming into this years new and improved Nadoes 7’s. What one can expect from a side such as Team Intensity, is the unexpected. Although being a new side, they are coming for one thing, and that is to give the more traditional Nadoes 6’s sides a good run for their money. With youth comes a few big names, such as two UCT stalwarts in the shape and size of David Bones Bonellie and the young Adrian Kritzinger. These two will add value and heaps of experience to the young side that looks set to stamp their name all over the Nadoes 7’s come Sunday.
With those two big names in mind, comes a 6”7 fruit farmer by the name of Theo Doms, and all what they will give away at this stage is that if this man comes off firing on the day, there are going to be plenty a smashed car window, this man can swing the willow. As we all know tactics plays a huge part in the quest for the title, with the side being led by Warren Butler, there is a definite insight into the opposition teams and what they have to offer and where their weaknesses will be. Look out for the opening bat Olly Braithwaite and finger spinner Pete Haw, who both can do some serious damage and are unknown to the Nadoes Cricket family, but with serious potential to re-write history. Phil Phil Phil the Drill need no introduction to those who witnessed the mans downing skills after a Nadoes fixture not so long ago…

Expect the unexpected…
The Youth of Yesteryear.
Captained by Nicholas McConachie
Team Name: Youth of Yesteryear
As a captain you could not be any more satisfied with your squad. We have one or two members unavailable from our previous years, but we have not been weakened by this but rather, we have been strengthened.
I am very happy as a captain with the new signings done in the off season by our management team. Our staff have gone away and looked at where we can strengthen as a squad and then delivered.
A significant signing has been Colin Birch. Colin was in the winning team last year and can be said to have carried the team captained by Jason Elley. When I approached him, he was unsure of his future with the team he won the trophy with last year. He jumped at the opportunity to play for a side that is maturing and heading upwards. Colin said rather than play for a side that maybe is on the other side of the hill already, and is heading down hill rather than uphill, I want to play for the Youth of Yesteryear. Colin has been known to be a big hitter that loves nothing more than pressure situations and we welcome him into what is a very happy team environment.

Our second big signing Ken Kirkby; well need I say anymore? As you all know he is a big hitter with amazing talent which has blossomed of late. He struggled to get going at the beginning of the season, but as the old saying goes form is temporary and class is permanent. But when we signed the Muffin Man, it just seemed to give him the confidence he needed. The next weekend he scored 76 off 50 balls and the following weekend another great innings of 60+. I do feel he just needed sum backing from his peers and we offer him this backing in our team. And I am afraid but yet delighted to say, he is back at his best and a wonder to watch. I have had lots of moans about signing him from rival teams management, but again, we had a chat to him, and without hesitation he signed.
We have such a great vibe in the camp, I have no doubt we will be at our best as a team. And if we don’t win it, which I’m positive we can, we will be right up there.

Simon Voigt: Last years competition saw him take a Hat-trick and etching his name into the History books. He can hit the ball a mile and bowls the best googlies you have ever seen.
Mike Chukka Charton has huge BMT, and after smashing the youngster’s last time out will be confident to do the same again.
Quales ales will enjoy the conditions at Pinelands and we won’t be surprised to see his name there as MVP for the day.
Cory Ross is a prolific run scorer and can’t wait to get out in the middle and do some damage.
Jesus Loebenstein will surprise everyone with his Clive Rice yawkers and subtle touches.
Glen is an all-rounder who hails from a solid cricket background and his enthusiasm for the game is contagious.
Jed will play an all-rounder role and has a special ability to win games.

The Great Dane Talks Up His Team!
This article was taken from his website www.playroom.za.net – a bit confident if you ask me!
There was an air of tension as the Greatness 7 waited to recieve their caps and be knighted last knight. The Board of Selectors for the Greatness were all in attendance and are arguable three of the most influencial sportsman of out time, not to mention the most colourful personalities of their respective sports. They were Eric Cantona (CEO), John McEnroe, Merv Hughes and Pieter Rossouw. These are the players that were Knighted by the board and inducted in a secret ceremony last night:
1) Seb Francke-Mattecka
2) Rhino van Niekerk
3) Great Dayne
4) Murray King
5) Podge Rodgers
6) The Spin Lizzard
7) Matthew Hayden
May I Just relay the words of Eric Cantona, CEO of Greatness PTY (Ltd) at the press conference earllier this morning. __”No stone was left unturned, no mountain left unclimbed, no valley left unsearched to recruit the best to the Greatness VII. We have assembled a team of champions here. We are looking to repeat the heroics of 2006, to demolish the competition and make a clean sweep of ur competitors, winning the cup for a record second time. This will not be easy as there are some very talented cricketers in the teams that stand in our way. But in the face of adversity we will triumph, this young team of superstars will have their names etched in the record books as the side that took them all down. Good luck to the rest of the teams, God knows you will need it.”
