NADOES RYDER CUP 2010
The American team is as follows:
1. Jonathan Meintjes: The skipper has had massive shoes to fill since the resignation of Jason Elley and his near perfect reign. After a convincing win for cheese in Robertson last year he will look to maintain his unbeaten run in the Ryder Cup and end his reign as the captain on a positive note. A long hitter that can be wayward at times, little can distract this skipper and he knows better than anyone else how crucial it is that he leads from the front and inspires the American team to victory.
2. Gareth Wobbe: Gareth, the best golfer in Team USA with a handicap of one, looks set to rip the life out of Team Europe and secure a valuable point for his team and skipper. His great knowledge of the sport and the formats which will be played, will surely give him the edge over his opponent. He is a great asset to the team and always brings out the best in his partner on the day.
3. Myles Brown: Not much can be said to knock Milo, aka Riggins, with his ability around the golf course and after a serious thumb injury, he is back at his best firing winning scores at his home course Royal Cape. Unfortunately he will be playing against one of his fiercest rivals on the day, but I am sure this will not affect his drive to beat his opponent.
4. Graham Barratt: GB is the only long hitting leftie in the field who is famous for his power fade off the tee and deadly putting stroke that can sink balls from twenty meters away. He is also known to confuse his opposition when he psyches himself up before a stroke, as he sings his beloved war cry “IT’S IN YOUR HEAD”. One of the most competitive sportsman around with a never say die attitude, his mind will surely be focussed on the task at hand and will only bring pride to himself and his fellow team mates.
5. Seth Pereira: He has always been known for his tasteful golf attire and after hearing about his selection for this years Nadoes Ryder Cup, immediately ordered a new fully equipped set of the latest Taylor Made R9’s. Seth is long off the tee but can be wayward at times, but this will not be punished at a forgiving course like Langebaan Golf Club. Exceptional out of the rough after much practice from his wayward hitting off the tee, he has patented the phrase “up and down” and most certainly will win a point for Team USA.
6. Jason Elley: After a highly successful reign as USA captain, Jason is enjoying his time away from the spotlight and has been hard at practice over in the U.K. bringing back that much needed tinkle to his game. Extremely talented on and off the golf course with accurate iron play that reaches every green in regulation and has a short game any golfer would be proud of. A lot is expected from this golfer on the day and we all know Jason will deliver!
7. Nicholas McConnachie: Nick can always be relied upon with his exceptional golfing ability and is well known in the golfing world as a player with all the attributes needed to become the best in the game. Since joining Team USA from Team Europe in the Ryder Cup, Nick has still to loose a competitive match and only now Europe realise the importance of such a player. His unbeaten run will definitely remain intact and give vital points to Team USA from both his fourball and single matches.
8. Johnathan Van Der Walt: A late inclusion to the American team, this gifted ball player known for his antics on and off the rugby field, will bring a professional attitude to Langebaan. Though not known for his golfing abilities he has been eagerly waiting for this opportunity to express himself in the Ryder Cup. With consistent swing and a solid short game, Johno teaming up with his fellow bay teammate Slab, will be a force to be reckoned with.
9. Robbie Morris: Robbie is a straight hitter with phenomenal touch on and just off the green. Though he is not the longest hitter in the field, a short course such as Langebaan Golf Club will best suite his game. Known for this lethal partnership with his team’s skipper, he seldom is rattled by his opponents and has the temperament to keep plugging away towards victory. One of the characters of the game, Robbie will set the course on fire as he wins yet another point for Team USA. The Ruth, The Ruth, The Ruth is on FIRE!
10. Ryan Williams: a rookie in the Ryder Cup team but a season veteran from the much beloved Presidents Cup, Ryan has been drafted in for a much needed break from his exploits at False Bay rugby club. He brings a long and accurate game from the world renowned golf courses found in the highlands of Scotland. Though it could be seen as a weekend away, Slab will be more than ready to take on the European team for his first time.
11. Steven Hole: This remarkably talented sportsman has earned his recall to the Ryder Cup. He currently spends much time on his home course in Johannesburg, working that bit harder than anybody else to improve his game and get it to the level it should be. Known for his power fade of the tee and his speedy play around the greens, Steven has travelled too far to let his team down and we look forward to him earning vital points for America.
12. Paul Waldburger: Fighting it out with Mr Wobbe as the best and most consistent golfer in the team, Paul has been selected to play for the American team once again. Paul played for the European team in last years Ryder Cup and because of his exceptional record has convinced to play with his old teammates again. We are sure Paul will make the most of his knowledge of the opposition and win America two vital points.
Team USA captain, Jonathan Meintjes, would like to wish both teams all the best for this years Ryder Cup and was quoted saying as a reminder for his fellow American team mates that “talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.”
