Final and HPL Wrap-up continued

After slick structured practices on the Sunday and the Monday combined with the traditional flair of the Nadoes touch all season, the boys couldn’t have been more prepared to end off this unbelievable season, in which the Nadoes had obliterated any opposition that dared stand in their way, with a bang.Furthermore, mentally we were in a state that I have never experienced before. The vibe that I picked up in the team braai at 36 on Keurboom the night before the final was one of a calm, grit determination to bring back our trophy. The sense of pride and heritage that was floating around the room during the screening of previous Formal videos sent shivers down my spine. To be apart of something which is truly greater than yourself is so humbling yet so inspiring. The look on the faces of the Youth when they realized just how colossal this giant is, was awe inspiring. What made the mentality going into the game so unique was the underlying sheer belief that absolutely nothing, not even a ridiculous penalty count, no amount of complacency, absolutely nothing, wasgoing to stop us in rightfully taking what was ours, and absolutely smashing these guys in the process. I just knew that the whole season we had been building up to this moment, much like the Bokke had built up to the group game against England for 4 years in the 07 RW. We all knew it yet we remained defiantly calm and composed.

The Jerseys were handed out by two heroic Nadoes figures in the form of Jason ‘Meerkat’ Elley and Stu ‘Scotsman’McConnachie in a pumped up change room. The Management were fittingly attired as if this were an international fixture and the crowd of Nadoes supporters were growing. The articulate warm up left the Nadoes ready to reclaim their trophy.

The game itself remains a blur. As Father Wilko so fittingly described in his final sermon for the season, the Nadoes rewrote the stories of the Bible, and David was no match for the might which was Goliath.

In the first movements of the game, Stander countered well, broke a tackle and offloaded his flying skipper who beat the cover and looked likely to score if not being called back for a forward pass. This set the tone and the entire match was one way traffic. The front row, which has dominated all season, won tight head after tight head and the lineout’s and driving mauls were dominant. Bermuda has been a revelation at loosehead and is undoubtedly one of the newcomers of the season. WP Dyson has moved to a new position and his natural sporting ability has shone through as he has made the #2 jumper his own. TimRawbone, yes the same Tim Rawbone who used to bounce off the ground, is now a lean mean scrumming machine. The Great Dayne showed he is without peer in the lineout’s and Yogi had the best game of his Nadoes career. A particularly sick passage involved Yogi aggressively ripping the ball from an Ikhaya attacker, bursting through with explosive power right in front of the massive Nadoes crowd, and switching with Thornadoe winner Matty Morris who surged forward with the ever hard working OllyBoobayeah tight on his shoulder. Morris deservedly won Thornadoe after all the hard yards he put in for the boys! Stander had a powerful first half in which he lived up to the promise he has been showing all season.

Stander and The-o played a half each at the back of the scrum – such is the depth of the squad –and the latter carried off where Stander left and had another dominant display.AB Qwaaak has lead the side with the experience and leadership qualities that only a Nadoes captain could possibly posses. He has lead from the front and is likely to be a contender for Player of the Season. Lock n load Loxton is playing the best rugby of his career after his strict diet (altho still abit chubby at 7% body fat…not 4.5%) and core strength training in the gym has resulted in him picking up the speed, agility and confidence which is required for a Nadoes flyhalf to general this squad of superstars. The fact that his tweaked ankle in reality has ruled him out for 6 weeks is testament to the character showed by this man when asked by his coaches to strap it up and just distribute in the final!

What can one say about Marcel Brache? The Kid is a springbok. No fucking jokes. His kicking, his running, his distribution, his defense, his vision and his fucking heart were all evident in his absolutely dominant display at both centre and flyhalf in the final. His scintillating line breaks set up some pushing it tries. His floater to the Flying LloydTePoki which set up the best try ever seen in a final left the UCT Rugby Management laughing at the fact that this guy is not playing for the Stormers let alone UCT 1sts. His fellow brothers clearly believe that he has what it takes to make it to the top. Its up to Marcel to decide if he is prepared to do what it takes to fulfill his potential and take what is rightfully his. Brother, no matter what, we believe in you and back you all the way.

Curtis ‘Matty Rogers’ Middleton has been an absolute revelation in the Nadoes this year. Tipped as one of the contenders for Player of the Year, this Mechanical Engineer by profession has set the Nadoes backline alight with scything runs and big hits which are made with his heart. He combined excellently with Marcie in the final running off his shoulder all day and breaking the line at will. Given that he was marking the Ikhaya/Villagers 120kg (haha/ LOL for lockers) superstar and that he totally outclassed him is testament to the caliber of this fine addition to the Nadoes squad.

Prawn Fillet is undoubtedly the most improved player of the season. This season has seen the flame grilled prawn fillet who was Raun in the Nadoes (not USA Jason) solidify his spot in the starting line up amongst stiff competition. His creativity and distribution combined with his sheer pace has been a common sight on the green mile this year. It just shows what a bit of touch and a bit of confidence and self belief can do to a player. Lloyd TePoki, who many are now comparing to a grandpa, must surely be reaching retirement age now? NAAAT!Lloyd is an absolute superstar and his performance in the final showed that this Nadoes flyer is as great as always. His deceptive pace combined with his deceptive strength saw TePoki run holes through the Ikhaya backline. His run onto Marcies floater and well timedpass to Avi for the try of the match was awesome to watch.

Aviwe a feeling had a good good night as usual! The KID is a joke. Future Protea cricketer ripping it up in the Nadoes backline is something spectacular to witness. He is qweeeeeeeek! The strength of the bench was testament to the unbelievable side we have had this year. The-O and Stander having to share the #8 jersey, Coosner and Phil on the bench in the front row is just crazy! Phil is one of the most talented players in the league and we look forward to his big season nextseason. Stu von Blitzenstein started off the season with an absolute bang and was unfortunate to loose his place in the starting line up after a few weeks with the swine. This man represents all that is great about the youth coming through and is sure to carry the brand to higher and even greater places. The same can be said for his fellow Youth in the form of Hah my name is steggesteggeman and Wheels who both have made a massive impact in the Nadoes this year. Their talent is undeniable and the likes of Donkey can relax in the knowledge that this great culture has a bright future.

Marc Mitchell, weighing in at over 95kgs for an outside back, came back strongly after being out the whole season with a chronic hamstring problem. After his impressive start in the place of the cricket-touring Avi in the quarter, Marc showed his class coming on off-the-bench in the semi and final. Brennan Wright falls into the same category as Marc and also came back impressively after a long lay off. Brennan showed he is a devastating ball carrier in open play and is testament to the quality that makes up this side!

Iron Giant. Iron Giant. The legend. What can one say about this man other than it is an absolute privilege to have played with this Nadoes Great. The man is the enforcer of the Nadoes and his strength and experience is what is needed to win finals.

Thomas Vaughan has brought leadership and coaching expertise that has moulded this band of talented brothers into an unstoppable juggernaught that is the Nadoes 2009 team. Donkey, after playing a pivotal role early in the season, was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. His experience, leadership qualities and massive vibe played a massive role in our success this season. The man is an icon. Wilko, after hitting superpump, showed promise at 10 until he kicked for touch and was dropped for the season! Seriously though, the leadership showed by this member of the management committee is representative of how hectic we actually are.

The final was amazing to watch. The crowd was hyped up and the Nadoes supporters started celebrating in the first half already. Cries of ‘there is only one marcel brache’ could be heard from all ends of the green mile. The tries scored were just sick and the game could not have been more perfect. The final whistle started off celebrations which have not yet ended. The aftermatch U Cha Cha was hectic. The team then lined up in front of the massive Nadoes supporting crowd and sung the Nadoes Anthem ‘I vow to be a Nadoe’. Theboys then made their way to the Steinhoff Sponsorship boards where a massive after match ceremony was held with dignitaries and a massive set up. AB swore into the mike and the players collected their medals one by one after which AB was awarded the UCT Steinhoff Koshuis League Champions Trophy and the Nadoes went more crazy than donkey in a changeroom.

The fines session was unbelievable. Past and present players, supporters and management packed into the changroom to create the biggest vibe. Yogi downed 15 Energades and Olly downed 15 beers. The massive 5L magnum of champagne was sprayed around by Phil and donkey got straight into the Tequila shots. 3hours later Nadoes were running around UCT rugby club naked with the Trophy singing U Cha Cha. The busses to Ivy League were a massive vibe. OllyBoombayeah was seen scoring at least 4 dollies on the Ivy League dancefloor that night.

Thursday morning saw many a Ranger stranded on some tweakers couch after the unfortgettable celebrations from the night before. Slowly but surely the troops assembled at their respective dwellings with stories and memories that will remain entrenched in the hearts of the brothers which make up this fine brotherhood forever. Many of the guys had ended up at Rawbones place so a midday celebratory function, consisting of beer, tweak and hotdogs, was held on Tims balcony where the boys looked upon the shadow of the mountain and reminisced about the legacy which had been created the night before.

It was off to the Nadoes Ryder Cup golf and the HPL for the squad in what turned out to be a long weekend of memorable celebrations. Despite the weather, the HPL was a massive vibe. Highlights of the day included WP Boma Dysons fantastic fifty in the Shadow of the Hermanus Mountain Range, Ruthy’s dodgy batting lineup, Quayle’s wizardry with the ball, Marcie’s classy 37 and Great Daynes fat nick and fine catch. Fines were festive and groupies were present.

The after party at Cubanna and Tappas was awesome. What happened that night should on principal not be told as what happens in Hermanus should stay in Hermanus but the next morning the News From Nadoeland which was flying around was too funny to let go.

The News from Nadoeland which was the front page of the Hermanus Herald read as follows: ‘Jake White gets caught upin a Hayes’; ‘Tim Rawbone has moved to Hawston to open up a health deli and a scrap metal franchise’; ‘Guy Loxton got a king pair and won the overall TFC after having to be replaced in the Super Southern Shawns lineup and fading 3 nights in a row. For those who are interested his wedding to Grahams former pupil is sure to be a massive vibe’; ‘Theguru came in a close 2nd to Olly Boombayeah – who fluffed 6 different dollies that we know of – for the fluffing award after pimping yogi’s formal date with his crutch on the dance floor’; ‘Thomas Vaughan enjoyed his weekly pilgrammage to Bethlehem’; ‘Hah my name is stegge steggeman caused DrD.Ray to shed a tear for his lyrics’; ‘Stu von blitzenstein couldn’t resist theTredeoux ‘Pussy’ buffet’; The Durbanville Daredevils are declared HPL winners after video footage shows Southern Super Shawn player, the Great Dayne, not playing within the spirit of the game!’

Yogi Bear, after a hard weekend coordinating the SACS waterpolo tournament, sat in his procrastination lounge, and was shocked at what he read in the Hermanus Herald. Upon hearing about loosing out on his trophy formal date to the Guru, which neutrals declared fair game, Yogi struck back with a vicious blow in the form of a very sneaky dvd and hot chocolate in his lovenest at Mason House.

This awesome long weekend has set the tone for a pushing it ‘Championship’Nadoes Formal 2009. Let me finish with a quote from the Guru himself: “The date you arrive with at the formal is hardly ever the date you leave the formal with”.

Messages from Nadoes Past and Present, Home and Away

THOMAS VAUGHN DAWSON SQUIBB

Gents, today is a great day for us all. We sit on the verge of a great success, and can now look forward to enjoying THE occassion of the year. Having watched the Nadoes for many years and seen the passion that it brings out from guys and girls, one can only be happy, proud, and pumped up!! Win or lose, we all know the boys will still sing and dance, as that spirit is what has created us. But we all know deep down that the Nadoes culture, is not only boozing, but also never losing! Yes, this game will not make the headlines tomorrow, nor will it be on Boots and All, or the Blitz chanel. In fact this result may be forgotten but 90% of the people there on Wednesday. But to us, this is a chance for us to make a memory of a lifetime, a chance to make your team mate’s nice, a chance to shine, a chance to have your biggest game, and a chance to be part of the Nadoes legacy! this is something that we WILL remember for many ears to come and will form part of many a conversation. This is something that 23 players, 1 manager, 1 coach, and heaps of other proud Nadoes will cherish for many more years.

We as a team have come so far, but what is even more impressive is the manner in which it’s been done. We can choose to put pressure on ourselves, or we can choose to enjoy the occasion as if it’s our last time on the field. When I glance over the squad all that can be seen is quality and enthusiasm, and for that the Nadoes are admired. Never forget that the Nadoes have created something special, and when you pull that jersey on tomorrow you are part of that specialness, and are responsible for keeping it going.

Gents, tomorrow is a great day and quite frankly there is no other place in the world we could want to be than out there on the mile!! Let’s live it and love it, and when you looka round at your mates, take in what special friendships we have made, what great okes stand around you, and most of all realise how lucky we are to be able to run out there and push the limits.

I vow to be a Nadoe, a Nadoe till I die,
coz we’ll always play together, we’re Nadoes you and I.
WE play for each other and always like to booze,
coz winning is our culture and Nadoes never lose.

And when we wear the red and black we’ll put on a good show
and we’ll always stand together, and be a Tor-na-doe!!

CHARLES FRODO SANDEROFF
Dear Fellow Nadoe

Another season of Nadoes rugby has almost finished and this time around I unfortunately haven’t been there to see it or be apart of it.

However in saying this, the positive energies of the new breed of the Nadoes brand has reverberated all over the world. The efforts by young and old to reignite the passion and commitment set up by Jedi and his elder followers has been well noted by those far away, and in turn greatly appreciated.

In fact being away hasn’t entirely been a negative for me but rather a big positive. The reason being that now I feel closer than ever to the Nadoes cause and brotherhood. You realize whilst being away that the Nadoes is unique, special and something truly amazing, something well worth developing and hanging on to.

Don’t take this feeling for granted. Revel in it tonight, live it, do the best you can and create another piece of Nadoes history.

When on the green mile this evening, whether in a spectator role or player role just remember that what happens on that field tonight echo’s through the band of brothers throughout the world. Take that energy, use it and bring home the cup!

I dont wont to preach, act silly like ‘Frodo’ or be overly psyched up. All I want to do is wish all of you the very best of luck. I will be thinking of you all this evening and drinking a Bintang to Nadoes glory.

Boys, good luck for the game tonight! enjoy it. will be seeing you okes for some touch soon – moving back in a couple of weeks. ucha cha!

The Business End?

This buzz word is thrown around a lot. People often like to seem clever and state that “Its coming to the business end now”. Which is fine, because its true. Ladies and Gents, we find ourselves at Semi-Final time of the Internal League once again. And predictably, the Nadoes find themselves in the thick of things.

This is why we play rugby, why the Nadoes roll on. Its for Finals time. Many are over awed by the sheer magnitude of the situation (see my book Blown Away: The Cobras 2007 Final Story) But there are many of the Nadoes who have been here before, and will be here again. Names such as the Donk and Iron Giant have won 7 titles, AB and Great Dayne have lifted the trophy 4 times, and the list goes on. There are Nadoes playing their 6th straight final, trust me when I tell you that these guys are familiar with the centre stage.

Thus I propose, this end of the tournament be referred to as the Nadoes End of the Season, because as far back as anyone can remember, the Nadoes have been Involved, neigh, dominating in Finals time.

So boys and girls, its Nadoes time at the Nadoes End of the tournament. So whether you are on that field making the hits, or on the side screaming for the boys, or ladies in the bedroom blowing that Nadoes brains out, you are all contributing to something special. The Nadoes End.

NASH from NADOELAND - 12 Aug 2009

It has been a long while since I have awoken excited, anxious to get the day underway. On the outside i may seem composed, going about my daily routine calmly just as if it were any other day. But under the calm exterior lies a Nadoe waiting to be unleashed. Adrenalin pumping already as it always does throughout a Nadoes day (This phenomena actually starts on the stroke of midnight on a Tuesday and lasts a full 24 hrs. Doctors cant explain it.)

I go about my daily tasks trying not to think of that inside ball im going to pop, that covering tackle im going to make, that steal im going to put in. Every hour I get up to stretch my legs, keeping myself warm and my muscles at ease. I make a point of having no coffee, as the caffeine dehydrates the body and puts you on a temporary high, only to deplete the body of energy later, we don’t want that. I keep a bottle of water close, at least 2 litres on game day, my meals are perfectly planned out. Small meals at regular intervals, using as little of the bodies energy to digest and saving as much for putting in big hits and pushing through the last 10 mins of the 2nd half, when it counts.

When it finally comes time to make my way up to the mile, my body is rife with nervous tension, I cant contain myself as I drive up there at mach 3. Screaming Nadoes at the top of my voice. There is just enough time for a few high fives and chat before the change room. Details become a bit hazy at this stage due to the sheer excitement. Kit off, Nadoes vibe on, strapping, Jake calling out squad, Im IN!, slight stretch, drink of water, out on to the field to warm up, drills, kyle leads warm up, pop pass, hamstring, back into change room, jersey on, huddle, AB amped, U CHA CHA!!, File out onto the field, bags down, huddle, U CHA CHA, and charge onto the field…

Exclusive Interview with the White Pele

Hello Ladies and Gents, What a stroke of luck, I was rolling down the street in my drop top and I happened to see the an up and coming superstar walking into Jackie Daya. This up and coming Nadoe starred in the emphatic 28-7 win last night and adds another dimension to the already creaming Nadoes Backline. So I pulled up outside and threw my keys to the valet. I decided to conduct an Impromptu Interview on the spot. So we ordered our coffee’s and took a seat. Sorry, im getting ahead of myself. Who is this star you may ask? Well, I was in the same position as you a few weeks ago, hearing rumors of this ex cobra coming to the nadoes, I was in the dark until… I saw my mate, the other day, and he said to me Iv seen the White Pele. And so I said to him, Who is he, So he said to me his name is Dave Bonelli...

Jimmy Nash: Solid work last night kid, you must be stoked.
Dave Bonelli: Thanks Mr Nash…I..
JN: Call me Jimmy, Mr Nash is my father.
DB: Oh ok Jimmy, was great to get another win under the belt. This competition is all about momentum you know.
JN: Oh yes my boy, So how are you finding it in the Nadoes Camp?
DB: (Only half concentrating now as a group of blonde first years have come in and are chatting excitedly) Oh…Um, can I be honest Jimmy?, I feel at home in the Nadoes, I feel all my years of rugby preparation have led me up to this point in my career.
JN: Thats a good attitude Kid, It will take you far. So, do you have a date to the formal? Or are you still interviewing?
DB: (Loses concentration completely as he overhears one of the first years say “I’ have NEVER come that many times”) where was I, oh yep Jimmy, I havnt made up my mind just yet, but, there is some lucky lass who is gonna win the lottery.
JN: You are being referred to as the White Pele, How do you feel about this?
DB: (smiles, clearly embarrassed) Ah you know Jimmy, its just a bit of media hype. Its all blown a little out of proportion. But its awesome to be compared to a man as great as him. I do like the song tho (starts humming to himself)
JN: Now more importantly, I hear your father is a Gynie? has he ever got “stuck” into any famous belters?
DB: He was the travelling Physician for miss World from 92 – 99 so he has seen his fair share of p@#sy
JN: Jeez! Thats great!! Back to rugby, how…(we both stopped the conversation to listen in on the group of first years as their conversation reached fever pitch. The blond in question had been detailing her previous night saying it was the best of her life and she needed to take 2 birth control pills the next morning. We were completely floored when her friend asked her his name: “I didnt get his real name, people just called him Iron Giant”)
DB: Iv heard he was the best!!
JN: Thats what they say kid! Anyway, what do you think the chances are of securing a starting berth at the business end of the league?
DB: Ah, I would love to make it, but it will be tough as there are so many quality back line players in the fray, I am honored just to be a part of the squad.
JN: Well bones good luck for the rest of the season, I hope it carries on in the same vain.
DB: Cheers Jimmy see you at Touch.

Nadoesday Morning
The day dawned grey and cold early this Nadoesday morning. I lay there for a short while, my eyes still closed, thoughts running through my head, Nadoes thoughts. I envisioned the game ahead, what was needed of me, all possible obstacles and how to overcome them.

My mind races… Inside ball, one handed pickup, beat the defender on the outside, draw fullback, pop to Stegs who goes under the poles for the opener. I felt my shoulder twitch as I make a big hit on the cover defense and get straight up to force the turnover. I can see the trembling IKHAYA backs as I call loudly on defense. I smile as I am making that awesome Donkey-like Big lick off the kick off. The Adrenalin is pumping through my body now. I try my utmost to contain the aggression and excitement building inside me as I let out a quiet U cha cha under my breath.

My eyes open. I am smiling. Its a Nadoesday and we are going to win.

Forces muster as the red tide sweeps over the land. Its Nadoe Time.

It is rugby season. Scrap that, its Nadoe Season. Gone are the leisurly afternoons on the beach and warm sunsets. Its now time to do battle on the Green Mile as we set out again to capture another Internal League Championship. The first fixtures have been set and the Nadoes will be battling Ikhaya for first honours. The Nadoes squad is strong, with the perfect mix of new talent and seasoned veterans. There is a chill in the air, I feel alive. All who arrive on match day will be ready to Follow AB into battle. And come game time…

It’s been more than five years since he first stood behind the Jedi Knight. And now, as then, it is not fear that grips him, only restlessness. A heightened sense of things. The mountainbourn breeze, coolly, kissing the sweat at his chest and neck. Tugwell 1st years cawing, complaining, even as they sip cooly at their Brutal Fruits. The steady breathing of the 14 at his back, ready to put their bodies on the line for him without a moment’s pause. Everyone of them ready, to go to battle.

Im ready, are you?

Nadoeland gears up for the 2009 Internal league
Jimmy Nash

With the start of the 2009 Internal League just around the corner, Nadoeland is wild with excitement and expectations. The disappointments of last year are a distant memory in this new and rejuvenated Nadoes setup. The team is strong and confident this year. The fans and adoring public are picking up on this vibe and are too beginning to believe again.

If this past weeks 2Oceans results were anything to go by, this years team will probably be the fittest Nadoes outfit to date. Some storming times were put Nadoes with most running under 2hrs. Yogi, Callan, Olly J, Great Dayne and Rua Tipoki all posted times around the 1:40 mark and were only a few minutes behind the eventual winner Neil Quayle. But, all this pales in comparison to the performance put in by Bermuda Brad who clocked in with an official time of 1:58:06. What an effort from the big man.

Touch yesterday saw a close to record turnout of some 30-strong Nadoes looking to secure those elusive starting spots that will be up for grabs come match day. These starting spots will be even more hotly contested with the exciting introduction from Kreate of the Nadoes Caps. But more on that later.

So boys and girls it seems the Nadoes spirit is stronger than ever and this season is shaping up to be the most hectic one yet. I have got a semi just thinking about it. Oh wait, make that a full blown Boner. U Cha Cha

NASH FROM NADOELAND

A tale of the magic that is Nadoeland.
by Jimmy Nash

It is the Land of the Gods. It is a Special place full of beauty and splendor. A place where dreams come true and its still only R1 to the British Pound. You walk shoulder to shoulder with many of Cape Town’s biggest names and there is a second to none standard of models scattered all over the show. These models become increasingly aroused at the mere sight of a Nadoe and have been known to approach a Nadoe (these ladies often hunt in pairs) in broad daylight, quite un-boozed, and offer themselves to him. Calls of “U Cha Cha” and “NAAAAADDDDOOOEEESSS” can be heard ringing out through the air at all times of the day. The rivers flow with beer and Barcelos have free burger stands on every street corner. Drinking games begin promptly at 6 at every bar in Nadoeland, which happens to have the highest bars per capita in the whole world, and Strip clubs, of which there are 135 in total, are free for all Nadoes, and double as hostels after hours.

The Nadoes warriors are the most revered in all of the Cape. Regularly defending its borders from the threats of the Barbarian Horde and the vicious spitting cobras that inhabit the barren marshlands of the outer circle. They make frequent and scathing assaults on the Nadoes but the Red tide defend their land with the utmost ferocity and send their foes packing time and time again. You may ask why do they defend Nadoeland with such passion and gusto? What inner strength drives them to become unbeatable and It is simple, it is to keep the traditions and the establishment that is the Nadoes, built and upheld by so many Nadoes before them, alive and well.

There was a brief breach of the defenses late last year where a well organised Cobra attack caught some of the Nadoes unaware and managed a quick foray into the Holy land. This offensive was soon quashed by the Nadoes Army and harmony was restored once again to Nadoeland. Now, the forces within Nadoeland are building, there is a red glow emanating from Godfather Mountain. There is a vibe that is rapidly growing amongst the Nadoes, the touch games are fiercer, the singing is louder, the morning-after pill sales have doubled and there is a noticeable buzz in and around the greater Cape Town area, because when the Nadoes are strong, Cape Town is strong.

Weekly wrap up from the land of the Nadoe.
by Jimmy Nash

This week saw the WPCC awards dinner being held at Newlands Cricket Ground. The Nadoes CC swept the awards winning team of the year for their victory in the 2-day league and 1 day competitions. Among the player awards were Thomas Vaughan who won Bowler of the season taking 32 wickets, while Great Dayne snapped up a bowling performance award for his 7/40. Murry King was named Players Player of the year in what can only be described as the biggest upset of the year considering he was TFC of the season last year. Paul Adams, the guest speaker applauded the Nadoes and their vibe to cricket hinting that he may in fact wear the red and white of the NCC next year. Albie Morkel is also rumored to be involved with a Lucrative deal with the NCC.

The Guru has been wild of late and in true guru form has been bedding birds of late with reckless abandon. Not since the Barrett stint of ‘05 has such a display been seen. So frequent have these visits to the Guru’s quarters been, that the little Guru has set up a bacon and egg stand in the garden to give the guests some much needed sustenance on their way out. This venture has been so profitable that the little guru is now opening a franchise in Joburg and looking to expand into Europe and the Americas.

Fitness will play a massive part in the Nadoes Season this year and it is good to see some of the players (and spectators) are doing their bit to get fighting fit. Yogi Bear and Big bad Brad have become shadows of their former selves and have put in a huge effort this season to contend for starting births in. Jason Elley has been spotted in and around the Cape Town squash courts, working out a way to win back el Cojones and out fox Quayles Ayles. Neil, never to be out done, has been hammering the road and putting in some serious Oceans training. This contest of Elley vs Quayle for the 2Oceans 2009 Crown is definitely hotting up. But one must ask, with the two favorites so caught up with each other, it leaves the door open for the other competitors. Don’t be surprised if we get some strong performances come race day from the in-form Callan Williamson or the old head of Chukka Charton.

This week also saw the official start of Nadoes touch practices. It was no surprise when an fired up Experience took the deciding rubber 5-4 to win the closely contested match by 2 rubbers to 1. Loxton and Marcel were distraught with the result and have still not said a word to each other since the game. It is also rumored that beater-sporting flyhalf is applying to have his birthday changed in his ID so that he may be eligible for the experience, but this is as of yet unconfirmed.

This weeks Quote: The Guru when asked if he came right: “Well, she didn’t come to my house for a haircut!”
