Nadoes win opening cracker vs Shamwaries
After a postponed first game due to unplayable fields at U.C.T. the nadoes had to suffer their first blow coming in the for of a bye in the second round which made the camp only that much eager to play.
The scene was set for an epic when last years champions Shamwari’s opened their account against the Nadoes with a quick try and penalty to take an early 8 – 0 lead.
It was not long before the nadoes supporters and players concerns were put to rest when a rejuvenated Stuart Mcconachie received good ball from an elected scrum by captain donkey from the penalty. He had no problem in showing his fine distributing skills when he let a long drift pass out to the flying full back in Elley as he broke the line and offloaded to Nick Riva who was always in support from the opposite wing to go over for the Nadoes first try of the season. The conversion was made.
It was not long before the Shamwari’s struck back and after repeated penalties whilst an inevitable yellow card looming the shamwaris went over for the second try in true bugger style! A lesser experienced team would have panicked but as the nadoes know five mins can be a half. In saying that, at the stoke of half time an amazing one handed interception followed by some extreme gas from SGI Patrick Magnus put the Nadoes right back in the game.
With the spirits high and old man Mo(momentum) leaning towards the nadoes a hint of class erupted as old and current captain debated on whether to kick for touch or poles, the latter was chosen and Nadoes took the lead for the first time in the game! U CHA CHA. A slight mishap and the shamwaris with a penalty of their own took the lead once more. It was now that the man of the match award winning performance unfolded as the front row with explosive power and camaraderie won a tight head and resulted in another penalty. Stephen Hobson, the experienced veteran who came on had no trouble in putting over the next two kicks!
The NADOES walked off with victory all over their faces until Anton Iron Giant got that look slapped right off his face and Big Dwayne Viljoen saw red and got stuck in. A pity that the game had to end in such a manner but nevertheless a great beginning to what looks a classic season to come.
